The 2009 Club Championships came to a close on Saturday 11th July with the completion of ten of the eleven finals in seven events over almost six hours of highly competitive play.
For the first time since 2000 we had a triple champion as Annabel W triumphed in all three events. In the ladies singles she reversed last year’s result by beating defending champion Nikki R in three sets over more than two hours play. In the ladies doubles, partnered by Sue T, the two-time defending champions Liz M and Nikki R were beaten in straight sets and lastly, partnered by husband Richard, a three set victory was achieved over David W and Nikki R.
Elsewhere, justifying the inclusion of a number of our talented juniors in the Championships, men’s singles champion Angus Jones partnered his 13 year old daughter Megan to victory in the Tier 2 Mixed Doubles final.

The overcast and threatening weather held out with just a few light showers which did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players and spectators.
It is interesting to note that several runners up from the 2008 Championships fought through to become this year’s Champions.
Once the Summer League matches have been completed the season will be brought to a close by an American Tournament on Sunday 13th September.
