A lovely evening was had by some 80 club members at Goring Tennis Club’s 2nd Annual Awards Night, held at Caversham Heath Golf Club. The theme was glitzy and blue and the ladies certainly took this thought to heart, whilst the tables were all appropriately named after precious stones
After a champagne reception, the guests sat down to a lovely meal whilst being entertained by a series of quiz questions, involving a lot of horse trading between tables. The Amethyst Table were the eventual winners of the quiz.
Whilst we all digested our desserts, our club captain, Mark T who acted as Master of Ceremonies, talked us through the wonderful year that the tennis teams had achieved. There certainly was a sizeable array of silverware present on the table. All to be fought for again this year!
Then the high spot of the evening! Who had won the coveted Match Player of the Year awards?
This is such a difficult category for the team captains to decide. However this year Linda B and Liz M won the Ladies awards, and Joe R and Michael T won the Mens. In true Oscar style, speeches were made and awards accepted, but not necessarily in that order.
Then the raffle, so many prizes, so little time. Many thanks to the local businesses who so support the tennis club with their donated prizes.
By this time the guests were more than ready to work off some calories, and so danced the night out, well until midnight anyway, to the sounds of Pot Luck.
Many thanks to our retiring social organiser Linda B and also to Sallie P for taking up the mantle on organising this, the high spot of the tennis clubs social year.
