Eight Team Tournament, Sunday 17th September 2006

Splendid weather and keen rivalry led to a most enjoyable afternoon of tennis.

Once again the Annual 8 Team Tournament, was organised both as a culmination of the summer activity and as a prelude to the winter competitions.

It involved players from the 8 men’s and ladies’ winter squads. Pairs were drawn such that an A team player played with a D team player and a B teamer with a C teamer.

This as ever made for an intriguing matching of players. Would the better A team player dominate, or would the more balanced team play better as a pair? Let the results speak for themselves!

Without a full contingent of A Team players, the Men’s Group was reduced to six pairs and was played as a Six Pair League with the total of games won determining the final result.

The Ladies, with a full contingent, played in the more traditional manner for this event with two preliminary groups. The positions in these groups then determined the play-offs for the final positions

The two Ladies’ groups were closely fought for the top positions. The pairing of Sara B & Shannon S and the pairing of Nikki R & Hayley D both arrived in the final undefeated where in a hard fought match Nikki  & Hayley narrowly clinched victory.

In the Men’s, Mike T & Phil R forged ahead with some good early results. Nonetheless the top three positions were all dependant on the results of the last matches.

In the event Ollie R & Paul J  took first place with Jorian B & Ian B squeezing in as Runners Up. A mere two points separated the top three places.
