Ladies Social Tennis Afternoon
On Sunday 20th November 2005, the coldest afternoon so far that year, 16 hardy and enthusiastic ladies took to the tennis courts.
With encouragement from Sue and Mark and a promise of tea and cakes to come we had a really enjoyable afternoon of tennis. Many of us had not had the opportunity (or the confidence) to come to club sessions or play in competitive games and we welcomed the opportunity to play against other like minded people of a similar standard to ourselves.
The ice showered down onto the court as we occasionally hit the ball into the net or into the side netting and towards the end we had a problem with the fog coming down.
However, as we drank our tea and ate our cakes at the end of the session, we all agreed that we had had a really great time and look forward to the next session. We had also gained two new club members, so it was an all round success.
Sue organised the games so that we all moved round and played against lots of different people. She has also started a box league for us, so that we can carry on her good work ourselves.
A great big thanks to Sue and Mark for giving us the opportunity to play together and also to Linda B who made up the numbers and helped organise the day.
Who knows, there may be a new club champion in the making!
On Sunday 11th December 2005 at 1.00 pm another similar session was held in equally cold weather. This attracted a few new faces.
As was rumoured, there have been other similar afternoons organised this year.
So do come along again or join in if you missed the earlier sessions.
