Quiz Night 2005

Quiz_0104Goring Tennis Club Quiz 2005 goes High-tech

The 2005 Quiz Night was held on Saturday, 15th October, 2005 at the Morrell Rooms.

This year introduced automated scoring with computer projection onto a large wall screen and crisp, clear, digitised audio for the music round. The quiz now moves into the new millennium!

The six teams selected some innovative names (in no particular order):

  • Game Set & Match
  • Purple Patch
  • International Rescue
  • You Cannot Be Serious
  • Mary’s Gladiators
  • The Optimists

Quiz master, Mark T, and the adjudicator Sue, set some intriguing questions, becoming progressively harder throughout the evening, but always provoking the feeling “I should have known that” and the appropriate level of groans and cheers as the answers were read out.

By the half way point, when the Ploughman’s refreshments were served, only 8 points separated all the teams.

But Purple Patch were aptly named and in the latter rounds they had just that, as they romped to final victory.

A most entertaining evening. Thanks again to Mark and Sue and also Linda B for organising the event.

A presentation of a box of wine was made to the webmaster, Phil R in recognition of his recent efforts in setting up the new website.

Editor’s Note:
This was most unexpected, but very much appreciated.

A Flavour of the Questions

For those of you who did not make it to the evening, here is a flavour of the questions.

There was only one question that everybody got wrong. No one knew a “Turkey Twizzler” intimately enough to guess the percentage meat content from the choices given.

Not everyone knew that the latest bird virus was the H5N1 strain. Janet C not only knew the answer, but also what it meant!

Did you know:

  • That there was such a thing as a left handed pencil and how to recognise one?
  • The fact that Wilma Flintstone was Wilma Slaghoopal before she married Fred?
  • That there are only two double landlocked countries on the planet or even what that means?

For those of you who did make it, Crawford R would like you to know that the Swedish flag looks like this.
