40th Anniversary Quiz Night Saturday, 18 October 2007 in the Morrell Rooms, Streatley
The fourth and last celebration of the club’s fortieth anniversary year took place on Saturday 18th October in the form of the Annual Quiz.
This year’s event, a suitably entitled Forty Years of…quiz, attracted nine teams, including a guest side from Goring Cricket Club.
After 8 rounds of varied questions (during which the teams were invited to play a ‘joker’ to earn double points on a round of their choice), Teacher’s Pets (having been last after the first round) emerged as the winning team with 144 points just pipping Wet Patch into second place on 140 points.
Following a sumptuous Ploughman’s supper, the evening was running smoothly to its conclusion when suddenly the Morrell Rooms were plunged into darkness as the electricity failed.
A couple of unsuccessful attempts to restore power later (accompanied by a brief chorus of “It’s A Long Way To Tipperary” from the more musically minded) and everyone agreed to complete the one remaining round by means of illumination from torches, mobile phones and the by now battery powered scorer’s laptop.
Only once the clearing up had been accomplished in semi-darkness, was the power restored by the caretaker. No damage done!
Congratulations to John and Janet C, Crawford and Fiona R, Phil T and Lesley H, collectively known as Teacher’s Pets, who thoroughly deserved their prizes of bottles of wine.
Thanks to the Social Committee for organising the evening, to Sallie P for organising the catering (and running the scoreboard) and to Quizmaster Mark T for setting the questions.
